The Cookeville Performing Arts Center opens its 34th Backstage Series with Jonathan Troy's suspenseful comedy. Performances are at 7 PM on August 14, 15, 18, 20, 21, and 22, with 2 PM matinees August 15 and 16. Tickets are $15.

The Chicken Festival
Cookeville's first Chicken Festival runs from 10 AM to 4 PM with a wing competition, live music, local vendors, a kids zone, bounce houses, and a chicken scavenger hunt. Admission is $2 or a personal-care item, and kids enter free. Wing passes are sold separately.

Third Thursday Concert Series - August
The season finale of the city's free Third Thursday Concert Series at the Dogwood Performance Pavilion. A different band and music genre is showcased each month, May through August. The concert begins at 7:30 PM. Bring a chair or blanket and enjoy a relaxed evening of music in the park.

The University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture and Cumberland County Master Gardeners host a free day for gardeners of every skill level. Sparta's long-running county fair opens Friday with carnival rides, livestock shows, exhibits, fair food, and nightly entertainment. Kids Night is Sunday, August 30. The fair runs through Saturday, September 5 at the White County Fairgrounds.

EmiSunshine and Sam Hatmaker
Hip Cookeville presents East Tennessee songwriter EmiSunshine with Sam Hatmaker for a night of songs and storytelling at the Cookeville Performing Arts Center. The rescheduled show starts at 7 PM, with doors at 6:30 PM. Tickets are about $25 and the concert is all ages.

TTU Golden Eagles Football vs Monmouth
Tennessee Tech opens its first Southern Conference season at renovated Tucker Stadium against the Monmouth Hawks. Kickoff is 6 PM. This is the Golden Eagles' first home game of 2026.
